Do you miss the days when we homosexuals were fucking badasses? When instead of costume design and sassiness we occupied our time with murder? Of course back then we were still responsible for all the greatest literature and poetry, as I am sure Genet could attest to. Anyway, nostalgia aside, Genet is a fabulous author; part McCarthy-esk epic prose, part Burrough's bold faced brutality, naive and yet world weary Jean Genet comprises a literary movement all his own and is definitively worth a quick read (I forgot the macho brevity he and Hemingway share). Also, for an extra dose of tortured homosexual fiction, I would highly recommend the Fassbinder film based on his 1947 novel, Querelle of Brest, of the same name.
